Gallery1988 and Baby Tattoo have come together to publish “Curiosities,” featuring the surreal artwork of New York artist, Travis Louie. The first book in the Gallery1988/Baby Tattoo collaboration series, as well as the first in Gallery1988’s 5-year history, Travis Louie’s “Curiosities” showcases portraits of Louie’s signature characters from an Edwardian era that exist only in his peculiar little head. “Curiosities” not only shows off the artist’s undeniable talent seen in his awe-inspiring photo-realistic acrylic portraits, but also gives the reader a deeper look into his altered reality by including the written histories and backgrounds he assigns each and every unique character. This book helps you understand the beyond-gifted artist that film director Guillermo Del Toro, who wrote some kind words about Louie’s work on the back cover of “Curiosities,” describes as “the absolute master of his own askew domain.”

The book will be released at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con, July 23-26, 2009, at the Baby Tattoo booth (#601). In addition to the limited retail version, there will be a very rare Comic Con exclusive variant available that weekend. Travis will be scheduled at the Baby Tattoo booth for multiple signings, while some other incredible surprises will be revealed at the booth as well.

Gallery1988 will also host a book release party on Tuesday, July 28th for those unable to attend Comic Con. This party will take place at Gallery1988 Los Angeles, with Louie in attendance, for the debut of another very limited variant cover, the exclusive G1988 version of the book, which will also will include a limited edition giclee print that is signed and numbered by the artist.
