We sat down with uber-customizer and all around nice guy Brent Nolasco and threw him some Quickie Q’s about his upcoming show with NEMO @ ToyQube (This Saturday July 18 7-11PM). In between his painting sessions he managed to answer some of our questions…

What is your name?
Brent Nolasco

Where is your homebase?
PA

Last piece of art or toy you bought and why?
Cheap Plastic Dinosaurs. I rip them apart and use the pieces on some of my customs.

Tell me about your upcoming show?
“From Mind To Matter” at ToyQube

What is the show about?
The show is about processing the ideas that come up in your mind and making them into a reality. I just wanted to have fun with the show and not create a specific feeling or mood.  I decided to go back to some of my old techniques of painting that I haven’t done for a while. The paintings have more of a loose watercolor feel to them. I wanted to play around with the objects being transparent and defined at the same time. The charactersrs would be the focal point and have the surroundings be  more washed out and subdued.

What is the coolest thing you’ve seen lately?
I’ve always been a fan of Jeff Koons. He is taking art to a whole new level. His metal castings of blow up pool toys are out of this world.

Favorite color combination right now
Different hues of Red and Purple. I like colors to be bright and full of life but be gritty and dirty at the same time.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now where would you be?

At a beach with my family.

Your favorite addiction?
I’m a big sneaker head. Can’t beat the feeling of getting a fresh pair of sneaks. I like Nike SB’s and Supra’s.

Day or Night person?
I’m a day person all the way. Can’t wait to get up in the morning and get to work.

Zen or ADD?
I’m a pretty Zen person all the time but there can be ADD moments.

Name a pet peeve?
I can’t stand the sound of plastic bags krinkling and balloons squeaking.

What would your last meal be?
In-and-Out burger. I call it the “heart attack special” – 2 cheese burgers with extra spread, 2 fries and a strawberry milk shake. Yummy!
