The art world, global companies, complex societies and every small individual all have one problem in common: how to deal with the crisis. When money goes wrong nothing goes right. Many in the high society of art dreamt the dream of instant success and big overnight money, but the awakening was rough and most of the ambitious collectors had gone with the wind. So how can one stay in a market that barely exists in this time, where money displays a rather strange behaviour.
Jim Avignon, Brooklyn-Berlin based artist, musician and hopeless bohemian curated a show with 7 young artists from Brooklyn and Europe, which might have some answers for you. They throw their skills together and create a panorama, where strange and funny characters inhabit a peculiar zone somewhere between realist figuration. cartoons, messageboard-doodling and pure fantasy.

Between high art and crumbling economy there is a common ground for inexpensive works, keenly tailored for broad appeal.

Ad Hoc Art presents ‘I Know There Is Love’ featuring street artists Chris Stain and Armsrock.
Chris Stain first became infected by graffiti’s bold colors, striking form, and independent nature as a child in the summer of 1984. As time went by he investigated other avenues of art such as print making, graphic design, and screen printing. Stain’s work is a direct reflection of the people, neighborhoods, and struggles that are swept along with the every day lives of the common American. It is his hope that through the work he will be able to convey the importance of the role of the less recognized individual of society.
Armsrock is an artist and activist whose work focuses on the human condition in the urban environment. By creating hundreds of unique drawings of his fellow citizens, and placing these original pieces on the walls of the city, Armsrock makes an attempt to generate a critical understanding of the stories and fates that house us.
The opening is on Friday, August 7th, from 7 – 10pm, exhibition runs through September 6th.

While I was walking down East Houston street 2 days ago I spotted these 2 peculiar fellows spraypainting on the wall where the Keith Haring mural had been. When I got closer I noticed it was the populsr graffiti artist Os Gemeos at work so I snapped a few shots and took some video. The mural should be complete now so if you’re in the area check it out.
