GUARDIAN 10″ Custom MADL

They’re FINALLY DONE!!!!

10inguardianmadl

Over 3 years in the making, I’ve finally completed the GUARDIAN 10″ run for my first year (2007) Subscribers. (yeah I know… took long enough right?)  I created a total of 15 pcs and the majority are going to my subbers, but due to a few previous arrangements I have 3 that are available on my store.

After a few different tries at making these I finally settled on using cut PVC plastic sheeting to create the raised surfaces.  Each piece was hand assembled, filled, sanded, and painted resulting in a mini production line here in the studio.  Extreme detail was put into the construction of these as I wanted them to look as close to production as possible.

In order to make each piece unique I mixed up the various colors between figures and wings.  There is one “repeat” colorway (black w/ white wings) that cleverly matches the “STEALTH” GUARDIAN 5″ MAD*L’s that I released a few months ago.  You can find all the pics over on my flickr page.

If your not one of the lucky Subscribers who get one of these bad boys, you can swing by the store today and pick up one for your collection.   The 3 that are up for grabs are pictured below….

Welcome to 2010

To all our avid readers and followers, welcome to 2010!

As you know, we had started VPEast as the East Coast blog for your Art and Design news, and through the year we hit some rough patches with our blogging late toward the end of the year, with my main blogging equipment (my laptop) turning up DOA, and not receiving a replacement until the end of 2009.

So pending any more rough patches, we should be able to serve you consistantly throughout 2010!

Thanks again for your support and patience through these last few months!

Let the blogging resume!

Upcoming – Phylum Kingdom @ Black Maria

tb_stadium_medium bs_thorned-and-honey-suckle1_medium

Black Maria is pleased to announce the opening of, “Phylum Kingdom” an exhibition of new works by Los Angeles based artist Brooks Salzwedel and New York based artist Tracy Barbosa.

Brooks’ most recent works shift from the examination of the blurred lines between nature and industry to a more focused look at nature vs. nature. These new works are influenced by 19th century botanical prints. Weeds, fungi, moss, carnivorous & poisonous plants are seen in the foreground. They seem to be attempting to obscure and block out anything that may be happening in the background (i.e. – thunderstorms, giant clouds, comets or nothing at all).

Tracy Silva Barbosa employs both glass sculpture and acrylic painting on canvas to create light and landscape out of an otherwise abstract, atmospheric piece. Tracy uses the juxtaposition of certain imagery to create a delicate narrative vocabulary to address issues such as age, sensuality and transcendence. With the spare flight of birds and twisted stalks of plastic flora, it is her intent to create a lyrical motion. These composite landscapes are assembled from her own photography along with archived icons. Juxtaposing this complex print with natural paint textures and various applications of gold, silver, and copper leaf, Tracy conjures a rich psychic realm full of color, balance and harmony.

Opening reception, Saturday September 12th from 7pm.  Exhibition runs through October 10th.

“We’re All DoOom’d!!” Show at Kidrobot Miami

picture-11 [singlepic id=933 w=320 h=240 float=]

If you haven’t heard already, I’ll be dropping into Miami (my first time there) for a special solo show at Kidrobot’s store/ gallery!  The show will be packed full of all new paintings, prints, and custom toys… many based off my BoOoya Ghosts characters! (which happen to be dropping as toys the night before in NY)  One of the customs I worked up for the show is done on a VERY rare 18″ Kidrobot mascot figure.

**The size of this piece is awesome and I really really want to keep him.

I’ve also done up an 18″ fatcap as well…  go big or go home right?  I’ll throw a few more teasers up as the show approaches!

If your anywhere near the KR Miami store, please stop by and check it out.  I’ll be there for the opening ready to sign & doodle.

Talk soon!
